Job Overview:
A respected law firm is seeking an experienced Employment Counsel to join its Labor, Employment, and Higher Education practice in San Jose. This Counsel role offers flexible options for full-time or part-time work and involves providing sophisticated legal support and advisory services on employment matters. The ideal candidate will have experience in both advisory and litigation roles within employment law and will engage directly with clients on complex workplace issues.

Duties

  • Advise business clients on a range of employment law matters, including compliance and workplace policy development
  • Conduct legal research, draft briefs, and prepare pleadings for employment litigation cases
  • Investigate workplace violations, including incidents of alleged sexual harassment and other misconduct
  • Prepare responses to complaints and provide guidance on best practices for complaint handling and workplace investigations
  • Draft and review employment policies to ensure legal compliance and risk management
  • Collaborate with legal teams and support staff to ensure effective client service and case management

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in employment law, covering both advisory and litigation functions
  • Strong client service orientation with exceptional interpersonal and problem-solving abilities
  • Willingness to investigate and address workplace violations, including sensitive cases involving harassment

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in California

  • Proficiency in employment law, particularly in compliance, policy drafting, and workplace investigations
