A law firm seeks an associate attorney to join a Seattle-based practice focused on defending healthcare providers in medical malpractice claims and handling investigations from state medical and nursing licensing boards. The firm has over 50 years of experience in this specialized area, with a team recognized by both state and national organizations. This role offers a hybrid work environment and the opportunity to grow into a trial defense role, with mentorship and exposure to all stages of litigation, including depositions, motions, and eventual trial work.

Duties

  • Conduct legal research using tools such as Westlaw.
  • Draft and respond to written discovery requests.
  • Meet with clients, witnesses, and experts to gather information.
  • Prepare detailed and timely reports for case management.
  • Conduct depositions, developing skills for more complex cases.
  • Draft and argue motions in court, presenting strong legal arguments.
  • Assist in preparing pre-trial documents, including trial briefs, jury instructions, and motions in limine.
  • Serve as "second chair" during trials with the goal of assuming primary responsibility in the future.
  • Manage multiple cases and projects simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met.

Requirements

  • Must be admitted to the Washington State Bar.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills to handle multiple tasks effectively.
  • At least 2 years of experience in litigation (preferred).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in healthcare or medical-related fields is a plus, but not required.
  • Ability to work independently while also being a collaborative team member.
  • Proficiency with ProLaw is advantageous, but not mandatory.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to confidentiality.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Washington State Bar License (Required).
  • Alaska Bar License (Beneficial).
