Job Overview:

A law firm based in New York City is seeking a skilled Corporate/Employment Counsel to join their team. The ideal candidate will bring substantial employment law experience, excellent academic credentials, and a solid client-focused work ethic. This role involves providing comprehensive legal counsel on various employment-related matters and contributing to the firm's success through expert guidance and strategic advice.

Duties:

  • Advise clients on employment-related compliance, including worker classification, wage and hour regulations, immigration issues, union matters, collective bargaining, employment policies, handbooks, and equal opportunity laws.
  • Draft and negotiate employment agreements and separation agreements.
  • Provide counsel on reductions-in-force, WARN Act issues and related employment law matters.
  • Draft and advice on restrictive covenants, including non-compete and non-solicitation agreements.
  • Conducted due diligence and handled employment-related representations and covenants in transaction documents.
  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams to address employment law challenges and develop practical solutions.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in employment law and regulations.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 4 years of employment law work experience at a nationally recognized law firm.
  • Specific experience advising on employment-related compliance, drafting employment and separation agreements, handling reductions-in-force, and advising on restrictive covenants.
  • Experience with employment-related diligence and transaction documents is a plus.
  • Excellent academic credentials and strong writing skills.
  • Superior organizational skills and a client-team-focused work ethic.
  • Membership in good standing with the New York Bar or eligibility to waive.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice law in New York State or eligibility to waive into the NY Bar.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of employment law and regulations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proven track record of providing strategic legal advice and maintaining client relationships.
