Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and expand the firm’s Trusts and Estates practice, focusing on high-net-worth individuals and complex estate planning matters.
  • Cultivate and maintain a robust portfolio of clients, contributing a minimum of $600,000 annually in portable business.
  • Deliver expert legal counsel on estate planning, trusts, asset protection, wealth transfer strategies, and related tax issues.
  • Collaborate with other departments within the firm to provide comprehensive solutions to clients with multi-disciplinary needs.
  • Supervise and mentor junior attorneys, ensuring high-quality service delivery and promoting professional development within the practice group.
  • Play an active role in business development, leveraging personal networks and marketing strategies to attract and retain new clients.
  • Represent clients in probate litigation and trust administration when necessary.
  • Contribute to the firm’s ongoing diversity and inclusion initiatives, helping to build a more dynamic and culturally responsive legal team.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in Trusts and Estates law, with a significant portion dedicated to high-value, sophisticated cases.
  • Demonstrable success in client development, including the ability to bring a book of business generating at least $600,000 per annum.
  • Proven leadership in managing legal teams or mentoring junior attorneys.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong, long-lasting client relationships.
  • Strong knowledge of estate tax laws, wealth management, and asset protection strategies.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with an ability to translate complex legal issues into clear guidance for clients.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, with the drive to expand business opportunities within the firm.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in the New York State Bar (or eligibility for reciprocity).
  • LLM in Taxation or Estate Planning is strongly preferred but not mandatory.
