Civil Litigation Counsel

Job Overview:

A regional defense litigation firm headquartered in Denver, Colorado is seeking an experienced Counsel attorney to join its growing team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in representing developers, general contractors, design professionals, and subcontractors, with a preference for trial and/or arbitration experience. The Counsel attorney will manage a caseload from intake to trial while focusing on client development and maintaining strong client relationships.

Duties:

• Manage a caseload from intake to trial, handling all aspects of civil litigation.
• Focus on client development, fostering strong relationships with clients.
• Handle direct communication with insurance claims representatives, including case assessment, reporting, and strategy.
• Take and defend fact and expert depositions.
• Engage and prepare experts, manage expert disclosures and reporting.
• Oversee all facets of pre-trial discovery, preparation, and motions.
• Handle large exposure cases and multi-party litigation, particularly in construction and design matters.
• Manage large document production and database matters.
• Lead 1st chair mediation and trial/arbitration experience, as needed.
• Manage and delegate work to paralegals.
• Contribute to marketing and business development efforts.
• Draft publications, articles, or legal presentations.

Requirements:

• Proven case management skills and strong work ethic.
• Excellent communication and analytical skills.
• Exceptional research and writing abilities.
• Ability to travel as necessary for client meetings and court proceedings.
• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
• Direct experience and interaction with insurance claims representatives, including reporting, case evaluation, and strategy.
• Experience in managing own files and matters preferred.
• 1st chair mediation and trial/arbitration experience is a plus.
• Familiarity with large document production and database management.
• Marketing and business development interest.

Education and Certifications:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
• Admission to the Colorado State Bar (or eligibility for admission).

Skills:

• Strong litigation skills and case management experience.
• Expertise in handling construction and design-related legal matters.
• Proficiency in handling complex, multi-party litigation.
• Ability to delegate and manage support staff effectively.
• Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize and manage deadlines.
