Job Overview
A law firm based in Alexandria, VA, specializing in intellectual property law, is seeking a skilled Patent Attorney or Agent with expertise in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biotechnology, or related disciplines. This role offers an opportunity to contribute to diverse aspects of patent prosecution and expand into other intellectual property practice areas over time.

Duties

• Prepare and draft patent applications for innovative technologies.
• Handle all aspects of patent prosecution.
• Collaborate with clients to understand and protect their intellectual property.
• Conduct patentability assessments and provide strategic advice.
• Review and analyze technical documents for legal purposes.
• Offer increasing contributions to other areas of intellectual property practice.

Requirements

• 0-10 years of experience in patent prosecution, preferably within a legal setting.
• Proven patent drafting skills and attention to technical detail.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Education

• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biotechnology, or closely related fields.

Certifications

• Registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills

• Strong analytical and organizational skills.
• Proficient in technical writing and legal document preparation.
• Ability to manage multiple projects with precision and meet deadlines.
