A law firm is seeking a dedicated and experienced USCIS Immigration Attorney to join their team in Melvindale. The successful candidate will collaborate with paralegals and the Managing Partner to provide comprehensive legal representation to clients on immigration matters. This role involves handling cases before U.S. immigration courts, USCIS, and other government agencies, as well as providing expert legal guidance and representation throughout the immigration process.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal representation to individuals on immigration matters, including representation before government agencies such as U.S. immigration courts and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
  • Conduct thorough consultations with clients as needed
  • Conduct preparation sessions with clients for interviews before USCIS, U.S. immigration courts, and U.S. state courts
  • Analyze the probable outcomes of cases using knowledge of legal precedents, and interpret laws, rulings, agency guidance, and regulations to determine appropriate legal strategy
  • Docket all case deadlines when necessary
  • Manage large caseloads and independently manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Review, draft, and monitor petitions
  • Oversee timely preparation of cases assigned and keep track of all deadlines under the attorney's supervision
  • Provide guidance to paralegals on assigned cases, including monitoring case progress, monitoring emails to clients, and setting case strategies
  • Review the work of paralegals in recordkeeping and document preparation
  • Prepare legal cover letters, memorandums, briefs, and opinions
  • Prepare and file appeals before administrative and federal courts
  • Keep clients informed of case progress through telephonic, electronic, and written communication
  • Prepare appeals, motions, and petitions before the federal district courts and federal circuit courts; represent clients before the Immigration Court, USCIS, and other agencies
  • Develop and litigate cases, including legal research and developing case strategy
  • Interview, certify eligibility, and identify the legal problems of clients within a specific area of law; provide clients with appropriate legal assistance in the form of advice, referrals, or actual representation
  • Participate in outreach and case acceptance meetings
  • Represent clients in court and before administrative agencies, including investigation, witness preparation, pre- and post-hearing written arguments, conduct of the hearing, and related activities
  • Provide documentation, statistical information, and other records as required by the Managing Attorney and Legal Project Manager
  • Participate in training to maintain Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements as may be provided by the program

 

Requirements:

  • JD degree from an accredited law school
  • Active Michigan Bar license (in good standing)
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience as an Immigration Attorney
  • Experience with USCIS and removal cases
  • Ability to attend USCIS interviews and travel as required
