Job Overview:
A law firm located in Irvine, CA is seeking a skilled Workers' Compensation Defense Attorney to join their team. This position involves handling all aspects of workers' compensation litigation, including depositions, appearances at the Workers' Compensation Appeals Board (WCAB), and case strategy development. The ideal candidate will be proactive, have a strong understanding of California workers' compensation laws, and be capable of managing cases at varying levels of complexity.

Duties:

  • Oversee all phases of workers' compensation litigation, including taking depositions and representing clients at WCAB hearings.
  • Handle cases of varying complexity from inception to resolution.
  • Develop strategies aimed at achieving efficient case resolutions.
  • Negotiate and settle cases-in-chief and related lien claims.
  • Draft pleadings, reports, and other legal documents related to cases.
  • Depose applicants and medical professionals such as physicians.

Requirements:

  • Prior experience in workers' compensation law, with familiarity on the defense side.
  • Understanding of WCAB procedures and California Workers' Compensation laws.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with clients.
  • Proven ability to manage cases and develop legal strategies effectively.
  • Experience in defending claims such as S&W, 132a, and subrogation is a plus.
  • An active member of the California State Bar.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active California State Bar License.

Skills:

  • Experience in workers' compensation defense.
  • Ability to handle depositions and negotiations effectively.
  • Knowledge of WCAB processes and workers’ compensation law in California.
