A law firm seeks a dedicated Intellectual Property Litigation Associate to join its Washington, DC office. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-stakes patent litigation matters for both national and international clients. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in intellectual property litigation, with particular emphasis on patent cases, and will thrive in a collaborative, client-focused environment. Candidates with a technical background in electrical engineering, computer science, or computer engineering are highly encouraged to apply, as well as those with prior experience as federal judicial law clerks. This is a hybrid role that typically requires two to three days per week in the office.

Duties

  • Handle and manage patent litigation matters, from initial filings through to trial preparation.
  • Draft and review legal documents including motions, briefs, and discovery requests.
  • Participate in the discovery process, including document review and depositions.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support litigation strategy.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their needs and provide legal guidance in complex intellectual property matters.
  • Manage case timelines, prepare detailed case strategies, and oversee litigation milestones.
  • Engage in pretrial activities and assist in preparing for trial, including the preparation of exhibits and witness coordination.
  • Provide clear and effective communication with both internal teams and clients, ensuring their needs are met.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in intellectual property litigation, particularly in patent law.
  • Proven experience working on patent litigation cases from start to finish.
  • A background in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or computer science is highly preferred.
  • Prior experience as a federal judicial law clerk is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented, client-focused environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to convey complex legal concepts.
  • Motivated to contribute to the growth of the intellectual property practice area.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Admission to the state bar (District of Columbia or ability to waive in).

  • Excellent legal research and analytical abilities.
  • Strong writing and document drafting skills, particularly for patent litigation.
  • Attention to detail and organizational proficiency in managing case materials.
