Job Overview:
A nationally recognized law firm is seeking an experienced Employee Benefits Attorney to join its Business Law Practice Group, with a concentration in health benefits law and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will support clients operating in the employee benefits and health plan service industries, with responsibilities ranging from legal analysis and regulatory advising to contract drafting and strategic compliance support. This position offers flexibility to align with either a partner-track or non-partner-track role, depending on the candidate's professional goals and experience.

Location:

  • Milwaukee, WI

Duties:

  • Advise on health and welfare benefit plan compliance under ERISA and related federal regulations

  • Support clients such as third-party administrators (TPAs), pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), HRA administrators, and benefits consultants

  • Provide legal guidance on a broad range of regulatory issues, including:

    • HIPAA

    • Affordable Care Act (ACA)

    • No Surprises Act

    • Mental Health Parity

    • Health Savings Accounts (HSAs)

    • Wellness programs and cafeteria plans

  • Conduct in-depth regulatory research and analysis

  • Draft a variety of legal documents and client communications, from complex agreements to simplified compliance summaries

  • Monitor legislative and regulatory developments relevant to the health benefits sector

Requirements:

  • 1–8 years of relevant legal experience, preferably in ERISA health and welfare benefits law or health insurance regulatory compliance

  • Familiarity with legal issues affecting PBMs, TPAs, HRA vendors, or other benefit service providers

  • Demonstrated interest in health law and compliance, with an understanding of the legal landscape impacting group health plans

  • Strong legal research, writing, and communication skills

  • Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly to clients and non-lawyer audiences

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the bar of at least one U.S. jurisdiction

  • Willingness to obtain bar admission in the hiring office’s jurisdiction, if not already licensed

Skills:
