Job Overview

A law firm in New York City, NY, is seeking a skilled Patent Agent to support its patent prosecution practice. The Patent Agent will assist clients in protecting their technology by drafting and prosecuting patent applications through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and providing support for due diligence tasks. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in chemistry or related fields, experience in patent prosecution, and strong time management skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Draft and prosecute patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
• Conduct patentability assessments and freedom-to-operate analyses.
• Support patent due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and licensing transactions.
• Communicate with clients and internal teams to gather technical information and ensure accurate patent filings.
• Manage and prioritize multiple assignments from various partners and clients.
• Monitor and manage deadlines to ensure timely completion of patent-related tasks.
• Stay current with changes in patent laws and regulations.

Requirements

• 2-4 years of experience in patent prosecution.
• Master’s Degree or Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry, applied chemistry, polymer science, polymer engineering, biochemistry, or a related field.
• Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (Patent Bar eligible).
• Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.

Education

• Master’s Degree or Doctor of Philosophy in organic chemistry, applied chemistry, polymer science, polymer engineering, biochemistry, or a related field.

Certifications

• Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (Patent Bar eligible).
