Job Overview
A premier law firm located in Chicago, IL is seeking a dedicated Immigration Attorney to join their team in an exciting EOIR-focused role. This opportunity allows for professional growth and valuable experience in the field of immigration law. As the EOIR Immigration Attorney, you will handle a range of complex cases, manage client relationships, and collaborate with a skilled team of legal professionals.

Duties

  • Represent clients in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and the Board of Immigration Appeals, both for detained and non-detained individuals
  • Manage a diverse caseload, ensuring timely and effective case progression
  • Conduct intake sessions with detained individuals at correctional centers
  • Prepare and submit various immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based petitions
  • Review immigration packets for accuracy and make necessary revisions
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutors, and community organizations on immigration law changes
  • Meet with prospective clients for consultations and determine appropriate immigration strategies
  • Prepare clients and witnesses for court or USCIS testimony
  • Provide legal analysis and advise clients on potential case outcomes
  • Draft legal briefs and represent clients in a wide variety of immigration-related cases

Requirements

  • 1-5 years of experience practicing immigration law
  • Strong case management skills with a proven ability to move cases forward
  • Ability to manage a high caseload while maintaining quality and efficiency
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Experience in Family-Based Petitions, Humanitarian cases, EOIR, Detained cases, Citizenship, and other USCIS applications
  • Familiarity with case management software is a plus

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the Bar in good standing

Certifications

  • Must be licensed to practice law in the state of Illinois

  • Expertise in immigration law, specifically EOIR and removal defense
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Excellent client management and communication abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
