Duties:

• Review and revise charter petitions to ensure they meet all legal and regulatory requirements.

• Analyze academic performance data across different student subgroups to assess compliance with legal guidelines.

• Interpret statutes, regulations, and policies to offer tailored legal advice to charter school leadership.

• Collaborate with school administrators on political advocacy initiatives supporting charter schools.

• Attend public meetings across California (primarily during weekday evenings) to represent client interests.

• Advise charter schools on compliance and legal matters that arise in the day-to-day operation of public charter schools.

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders within the education sector.

Requirements:

• Licensed to practice law in California.

• At least 2-5 years of experience practicing law.

• Strong research skills and familiarity with navigating regulatory and statutory frameworks.

• Ability to synthesize complex legal concepts and communicate them effectively to non-legal stakeholders.

• Meticulous attention to detail in reviewing documents and ensuring compliance with relevant legal standards.

• Exceptional editing skills.

• Effective oral communication and advocacy abilities.

• Capable of quickly learning new areas of law and adapting strategies to meet client needs.

• Demonstrated commitment to delivering high-quality legal services.

• Willingness to travel within California and attend evening meetings as needed.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Active membership in the California State Bar.

Skills:

• Expertise in education law, particularly charter school law, is preferred.

• Excellent attention to detail and ability to spot legal and regulatory issues.
