Job Overview:
A prominent labor law firm based in Suffolk County, New York, is seeking a full-time Associate Attorney to join its Labor Department. The position focuses on representing law enforcement unions and provides a unique opportunity to work directly with union executive boards and members on a variety of labor-related matters. Ideal candidates will have a background in law enforcement or prosecutorial work, though prior labor law experience is a plus, not a requirement. The role offers courtroom exposure, union leadership advising, and representation in regulatory matters.

Location:

Duties:

  • Act as primary liaison between the firm and union executive boards

  • Provide counsel and representation during critical incidents and internal affairs investigations

  • Represent clients in grievance arbitrations, disciplinary hearings, and contract disputes

  • Appear before administrative and regulatory bodies, including NLRB and PERB

  • Prepare and file legal documents for arbitration, mediation, and administrative proceedings

  • Advise union leadership on internal procedures, contract compliance, and labor negotiations

  • Conduct legal research and draft motions, briefs, and legal memoranda

  • Collaborate with colleagues on complex legal strategy and client service

Requirements:

  • Experience or familiarity with law enforcement procedures or prior work in a District Attorney's office

  • Availability to respond to urgent union matters, including critical incidents

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with union leaders and members

  • Proactive and self-motivated approach to client advocacy and litigation

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar and in good standing

Skills:
