Job Overview: A well-established law firm is seeking a highly motivated Post-Conviction Relief Attorney for a promising opportunity in Los Angeles. This position is ideal for a dedicated Associate Attorney looking to gain invaluable experience in both criminal and immigration law. The attorney will manage post-conviction relief cases, provide client counsel, and collaborate with a team of attorneys and legal assistants. Previous litigation or appellate experience is preferred.

Location:

  • Los Angeles, CA

Duties:

  • Advise clients on their legal rights and draft legal documents related to their cases.
  • Handle post-conviction relief cases, including motions to vacate, expungements, motions to reduce sentences, and early termination of probation.
  • Collaborate with criminal and immigration law practices as needed.
  • Attend motion hearings and provide clients with strategic advice following each hearing.
  • Manage open criminal cases, including arraignments, pre-trials, pleas, and sentencing on behalf of other attorneys.
  • Draft motions, perform legal research, and interview clients.
  • Analyze potential outcomes of cases based on legal precedents.
  • Manage a caseload and provide clients with legal analysis to determine possible case benefits.

Requirements:

  • Experience in criminal defense or immigration law.
  • Experience handling criminal cases at the state and local level.
  • Ability to work well as a team member, contributing to strategy discussions and supporting colleagues.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the practice of law in California.

Skills:

  • Strong legal research, writing, and analysis skills.
  • Ability to manage litigation and post-conviction relief motions.
  • Knowledge of criminal law and, ideally, immigration law.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team.
