Job Overview:

A law firm is seeking an experienced BIS, OFAC, and International Trade Lawyer to join their team in Austin, TX. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive background in U.S. export controls, sanctions, customs, and other international trade-related regulations. This role involves counseling, training, compliance audits, and responding to government enforcement actions, among other responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert legal counsel on U.S. export controls (BIS), sanctions (OFAC), customs regulations, and other international trade-related matters.
  • Conduct training sessions for clients and internal teams on compliance with export controls, sanctions, and customs regulations.
  • Handle licensing applications, opinion work, and filings related to international trade and compliance.
  • Perform compliance audits and internal investigations to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Respond to government enforcement actions and develop strategies for mitigating risks and addressing compliance issues.
  • Develop and implement compliance policies and procedures to align with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Advise on and manage investigations related to FCPA, national security matters (CFIUS), and other related areas.

Requirements:

  • Must be an active member of the DC Bar.
  • Proven experience in U.S. export controls (BIS), sanctions (OFAC), customs, and other international trade regulations.
  • Demonstrated experience in counseling, training, licensing, opinion work, compliance audits, and responding to government enforcement actions.
  • Background in handling investigations related to FCPA and national security matters (CFIUS) is preferred.
  • Strong academic credentials from a top-tier law school (U.S. JD required).
  • Prior work experience within a large law firm is preferred.
