Job Overview: A law firm based in Irvine, CA, seeks a motivated Patent Agent or Technical Specialist to support its legal team in patent prosecution matters. The role involves analyzing invention disclosures, conducting patent searches, drafting patent applications, and managing patent portfolios under the supervision of attorneys. The ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of relevant experience, fluency in Korean, and a strong background in life sciences.

Duties:

  • Analyze invention disclosures and perform patent searches
  • Draft patent applications and prepare office action responses
  • Manage patent portfolios and dockets under attorney supervision
  • Conduct client communication regarding due dates and project tasks
  • Analyze scientific or technical documents for patent assessment
  • Prepare information disclosure statements and declarations
  • Maintain U.S. and foreign patent prosecution dockets
  • Conduct interviews with USPTO examiners
  • Stay updated with intellectual property legal developments
  • Undertake continuing education to maintain accreditation
  • Enter, maintain, and analyze data for firm use

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience as a Technical Specialist/Patent Agent
  • Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
  • Fluent Korean speaker professionally; experience in Korea preferred
  • Bachelor’s Degree and advanced degree in life sciences
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and report on research findings
  • Strong investigative and problem-solving skills
  • Effective relationship-building with all contacts
  • Highly organized with experience managing multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to collaborate, work independently, and reprioritize
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills for providing IP advice
