Job Overview:

A law firm in Pittsburgh, PA is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented CFIUS and International Trade/Export Controls Associate Attorney. The ideal candidate will have 2-4 years of experience handling international trade regulatory matters, with a focus on export controls, enforcement, and compliance. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on high-profile cases involving the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) and export control regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise clients on compliance with CFIUS requirements, including preparation and filing of CFIUS notices.
  • Provide legal counsel on U.S. export controls, including compliance with the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and ITAR.
  • Assist clients in understanding and complying with U.S. sanctions programs enforced by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
  • Offer strategic advice on cross-border mergers, acquisitions, and other transactions with national security implications.
  • Guide clients in managing compliance with the Defense Priorities & Allocation System (DPAS).
  • Conduct internal investigations and assist in responding to government inquiries or enforcement actions related to international trade.
  • Draft and review license applications, voluntary disclosures, and other legal documents related to U.S. export controls and sanctions.
  • Stay current on regulatory changes and updates in international trade law and export controls, providing timely advice to clients.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams within the firm to support clients on complex trade and investment matters.
  • Represent clients before U.S. regulatory agencies, including the U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Department of State, and U.S. Treasury.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience handling international trade regulatory, compliance, and enforcement matters.
  • Proven experience with CFIUS, U.S. export controls, and ITAR.
  • General knowledge of the Defense Priorities & Allocation System (DPAS) is preferred.
  • Admission to the Pennsylvania Bar and in good standing (active status required).
  • Strong understanding of U.S. sanctions and export control regimes, including OFAC regulations.
  • Experience with transactional due diligence, risk assessments, and mitigation strategies in foreign investment matters.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Pennsylvania.
