Job Overview

A full-service, business-oriented law firm is seeking a Tax Associate with 3–5 years of private practice experience to join its Tax Practice Group. The role involves handling a wide range of sophisticated federal tax matters, including contract drafting, tax provision negotiation, and transactional structuring. Candidates with international tax experience will be viewed favorably. The ideal candidate will have strong academic credentials and a demonstrated ability to contribute to a collaborative and high-performing legal team.

Duties

  • Advise clients on federal tax implications of complex business transactions

  • Draft and negotiate tax provisions within corporate and commercial contracts

  • Support transactional teams on tax structure planning and execution

  • Collaborate with attorneys across practice groups on multi-disciplinary matters

  • Conduct legal research and analysis related to IRS regulations and tax law developments

  • Assist in providing tax planning strategies for corporations, partnerships, and high-net-worth individuals

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in a law firm with a focus on federal tax matters

  • Experience negotiating and drafting tax-related contract provisions required

  • Transactional tax planning experience strongly preferred

  • International tax experience is a plus

  • Must be able to work in-person in either the Milwaukee or Madison office

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

  • Strong academic performance required

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in Wisconsin, or eligibility to waive into the Wisconsin Bar
