Entry-level Criminal Defense Attorney

Job Overview:

A law firm is seeking a dedicated and motivated Entry-Level Criminal Defense Attorney to join their team in San Jose, California. This is an excellent opportunity for a new attorney to gain valuable experience and develop a career in criminal defense. The attorney will work under the supervision of the Managing Criminal Defense Attorney and will be responsible for managing a caseload, interacting with clients, and collaborating with a team of criminal defense attorneys and legal assistants.

Location:

Duties:

• Advise clients on their legal rights in criminal matters and draft legal documents related to their cases.
• Attend pretrial hearings on behalf of clients and provide strategic advice following each hearing.
• Handle court appearances, trials, drafting motions, interviewing witnesses, and conducting legal research.
• Analyze probable outcomes of cases using knowledge of legal precedents.
• Manage the workload of cases and ensure effective case progress.
• Provide legal analysis to clients regarding possible case outcomes and benefits.
• Accumulate additional evidence to support clients’ cases or challenge the prosecution’s charges.
• Prepare clients for depositions, establish case strategy goals, and gather critical information from witnesses and experts.

Requirements:

• Interest:
  • Strong interest in gaining experience in criminal defense law.
  • Interest in handling complex criminal cases at the federal, state, and local levels.
• Skills:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a team-oriented approach.
  • Ability to collaborate and strategize with fellow associates.
• Bilingual:
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred but not required.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Admission to the California State Bar (or pending admission).

Skills:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines effectively.
• Experience with legal research and case management software is a plus.
