Job Overview

A nationally recognized law firm is currently seeking a mid-level associate with 3–5 years of public finance experience to join its Finance Practice Group. The role offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of public finance transactions across multiple sectors including healthcare, economic development, housing, infrastructure, education, and special assessments. The ideal candidate will bring experience serving as bond counsel, lender’s counsel, or disclosure counsel and possess a solid foundation in public finance law, along with strong client service and drafting skills.

Duties

  • Serve as bond counsel, lender’s counsel, and/or disclosure counsel on public finance transactions

  • Represent a range of clients including state agencies, municipalities, issuers, borrowers, and financial institutions

  • Draft and negotiate financing documents and disclosure materials

  • Advise clients on matters involving tax, securities, contract law, and the Uniform Commercial Code as it applies to public finance

  • Manage deal execution, due diligence, and closing processes

  • Interact regularly with partners and clients in a collaborative, fast-paced environment

Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in public finance law

  • Experience working with governmental agencies and public entities

  • Demonstrated capability in managing bond, lender, or disclosure counsel responsibilities

  • Ability to manage complex transactions independently and as part of a team

  • Strong attention to detail, legal research, and analytical skills

Education

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

  • Business law coursework or concentration preferred

Certifications

  • Active membership in good standing with the Bar of the hiring jurisdiction

  • Timely bar admission in the relevant office location (if not already admitted) is a condition of employment

Skills

  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills

  • Solid understanding of tax, securities, UCC, and contract law as they relate to public finance

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities

  • Effective organizational and matter management skills

  • Professional demeanor with the ability to interface directly with clients and partners
