A law firm seeks an associate attorney to join their team in Jackson Heights, NY. This role offers a dynamic opportunity to represent clients in immigration, family, and criminal court hearings, both in-person and virtually. The ideal candidate will work closely with clients, paralegals, and supervising attorneys to ensure timely case preparation and document filing. While prior experience is preferred, candidates with a strong desire to learn and grow within these areas of law will be considered.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in immigration, family, and criminal court hearings, both in-person and virtually
  • Meet with clients to discuss case details and prepare for hearings
  • Collaborate with paralegals and supervising attorneys to ensure efficient case preparation and document filing
  • File court documents using electronic filing systems such as eService, NYSCEF, and ECAS
  • Handle various administrative duties related to case management and court filings
  • Travel to various court locations, including Newark Immigration Court and courts within the New York City boroughs, as required
  • Maintain effective communication with clients throughout the case process

Requirements:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar, in good standing
  • Spanish-speaking skills are strongly preferred but not required
  • Ability to travel for court hearings within the New York City area and beyond
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in legal filings

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active membership in the New York State Bar, in good standing

Skills:

  • Proficiency in electronic filing systems such as eService, NYSCEF, and ECAS
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage various tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • A proactive and client-focused approach to legal representation
