A law firm specializing in Elder Law and Life Care Planning in Melville, New York, is seeking a full-time Elder Law Attorney to join their Medicaid Team. The ideal candidate will work with a multi-disciplinary team to guide and support families as they navigate Medicaid eligibility, apply for benefits, and utilize these benefits to cover long-term care costs. This role involves collaboration with attorneys, paralegals, and Elder Care Coordinators to help clients make informed decisions about their estate planning and elder care needs.

Duties:

  • Assist clients in understanding Medicaid eligibility requirements and guide them through the application process.
  • Work with the firm's Life Care Planning team to ensure clients maximize benefits for long-term care needs.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis on Medicaid qualification laws and elder care regulations.
  • Draft legal documents such as Medicaid applications, powers of attorney, trusts, and other estate planning documents.
  • Provide legal advice and consultation to families on estate planning and elder care decisions.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and Elder Care Coordinators to deliver comprehensive legal services to clients.
  • Maintain strong communication with clients to provide updates and ensure they are informed throughout the process.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 1+ years of experience in elder law, Medicaid planning, or estate planning.
  • Knowledge of Medicaid qualification laws, benefits, and relevant regulations.
  • Strong research and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client and team interactions.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative legal team.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active membership in good standing with the State Bar (New York preferred).
  • Consideration given to recent law school graduates awaiting admission with demonstrated interest in elder law.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in legal research, drafting documents, and providing legal counsel.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and ensure attention to detail in documentation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to support clients and collaborate with the legal team.
