Job Overview:

A law firm seeks an experienced Environmental and Land Use Associate Attorney to join its team in Northern California, with hybrid remote options available in either South San Francisco or Sacramento. Duties:

  • Collaborate with supervising attorneys and professional staff to investigate and develop legal strategies related to large-scale industrial, utility, residential, and commercial projects.
  • Conduct legal research, case development, and factual investigations in environmental and land use matters.
  • Draft legal briefs, motions, and other related documents.
  • Represent clients before federal and state regulatory agencies, municipalities, and in court hearings.
  • Participate in settlement negotiations, rulemaking, and regulatory proceedings.
  • Work closely with scientists and other experts to support case development and advocacy efforts.
  • Attend legislative hearings, educational seminars, and client meetings as required.

Requirements:

  • 3-6 years of substantive experience practicing environmental and land use law in California.
  • Strong research, analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and good judgment.
  • Commitment to public interest advocacy, particularly in sustainable development and environmental protection.
  • Ability to work effectively within a diverse, equitable, and inclusive team.
  • Willingness to travel for casework, client meetings, and other legal obligations.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active California State Bar license.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in legal research, case strategy development, and drafting legal documents.
  • Strong oral and written advocacy skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
