A law firm seeks a dedicated associate with 3-5 years of experience in public finance to join its dynamic Finance Practice Group in Detroit. The ideal candidate will have exposure to various aspects of public finance, including healthcare finance, economic development, housing, infrastructure, and education. This position offers an opportunity to work on complex transactions and directly collaborate with partners and clients while gaining significant exposure to a wide range of public finance matters.

Duties:

  • Provide counsel on public finance transactions, including bond issuances, loans, and related financial structures.
  • Work with state agencies, municipalities, and governmental entities on financing projects.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents related to public finance matters, including bond counsel and lender’s counsel responsibilities.
  • Assist in structuring and executing transactions involving healthcare, housing, infrastructure, and education financing.
  • Support the preparation of disclosure documents and legal opinions in compliance with tax, securities, and UCC laws.
  • Conduct legal research, analyze complex public finance issues, and develop practical solutions.
  • Manage matters efficiently while meeting deadlines and client expectations.
  • Interact regularly with partners, clients, and other key stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience in public finance law, including bond counsel, lender’s counsel, and disclosure counsel work.
  • Experience working with state agencies, municipalities, and governmental entities.
  • Solid understanding of tax, securities, uniform commercial code, and contract law as it applies to public finance transactions.
  • Strong drafting, organizational, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent time management abilities and capacity to work under pressure.
  • Clear, concise communication skills—both written and oral.
  • Positive attitude, team-oriented mindset, and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple, complex matters simultaneously.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • An active member of the bar in the jurisdiction(s) where the candidate is admitted to practice.
  • Timely admission to the relevant bar(s) upon employment.

  • Expertise in public finance law, including bond issuance, tax-exempt bonds, and securities regulations.
  • Proficiency in drafting legal documents, contracts, and disclosures related to public finance.
