Job Overview

A prominent law firm is seeking a senior associate level attorney to join its Real Estate and Strategic Joint Venture team. The role involves providing comprehensive land use, planning, and entitlement services to clients. This attorney will assist with all phases of the land use and development process, from pre-acquisition due diligence to securing entitlements and ensuring compliance with state and federal environmental laws.

Duties

  • Assist clients with the full land use and development process, including pre-acquisition due diligence, entitlements, and environmental compliance.
  • Ensure projects meet requirements under CEQA, Coastal Act, and NEPA, and handle administrative appeals as needed.
  • Advise on a variety of development projects, including residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use.
  • Manage relationships with local regulatory bodies, including the California Coastal Commission and county and city officials.
  • Collaborate within a cross-disciplinary team to deliver strategic solutions for clients.
  • Drive business development efforts and foster client relationships within the firm’s land use practice.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in land use, planning, and entitlement services within California
  • Strong connections and substantial experience with the California Coastal Commission, County of San Diego, and City of San Diego.
  • Experience with renewable energy projects is preferred but not required.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active license to practice law in California.

Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of land use and environmental regulations (CEQA, Coastal Act, NEPA).
  • Excellent organizational and project management abilities.
  • Strong client relationship management skills with a proven ability to drive practice development.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-disciplinary team environment.
