Chemistry IP Associate Attorney

A law firm in New York City, NY, specializing in intellectual property law, seeks a qualified Chemistry IP Associate Attorney with expertise in patent prosecution. The ideal candidate will possess an advanced degree in chemistry, with a focus on organic chemistry preferred, or substantial industrial experience in organic chemistry. This role involves drafting and prosecuting chemistry patent applications, with a preference for candidates experienced in the pharmaceutical industry.

Job Duties:

• Draft and prosecute chemistry patent applications, particularly in organic chemistry and pharmaceuticals.
• Conduct patentability searches and analyses, providing opinions on patent validity and infringement.
• Collaborate with inventors and scientists to understand inventions and prepare patent applications.
• Advise clients on intellectual property matters, including patent strategy and portfolio management.
• Assist in intellectual property litigation, including preparing pleadings and motions related to patents.

Requirements:

• Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred) in chemistry, organic chemistry, or a related field.
• 2-6 years of experience practicing intellectual property law, specifically in patent prosecution.
• Admission to at least one State Bar in the U.S. and registration to practice before the USPTO.
• Superior academic credentials with a track record of high achievement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly.

This firm has given a lot of thought to the interplay between the New York and the New Jersey legal markets. Although one of the oldest and largest in New Jersey, this firm wants to capture the Manhattan type work at Manhattan type billing rates.
