Associate Attorney with 2-5 years of experience in criminal defense or prosecution

A law firm in Memphis, TN is seeking an Associate Attorney with 2-5 years of experience in criminal defense or prosecution to join their team. The ideal candidate will assist in all aspects of criminal casework and client care, demonstrating strong legal advocacy skills and some trial or preliminary hearing experience. Responsibilities include managing client onboarding, motions practice, discovery review, court appearances, and more. The role demands minimal supervision, effective case management, and adherence to firm guidelines to deliver excellent client service.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist in all aspects of criminal casework, including trial preparation, client care, and legal advocacy.
• Handle new client onboarding, motions practice, and discovery review.
• Review DUI videos, conduct field investigations, and interview witnesses.
• Attend court settings, conduct preliminary hearings, and negotiate with prosecutors.
• Prepare and manage case files, ensuring detailed and organized digital records.
• Advise clients on their rights and options, guiding them in making informed legal decisions.
• Evaluate criminal cases for sentencing exposure and develop defense strategies.
• Update clients on case progress, conduct phone and office consultations.
• Contribute to the development and implementation of systems, processes, and checklists within the firm.
• Adhere to internal guidelines to ensure consistent, high-quality client service.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law in Tennessee (include B.P.R. Number on resume).
• 2-5 years of experience in criminal defense or prosecution.
• Some trial or preliminary hearing experience preferred.
• Strong legal advocacy skills and ability to work with minimal supervision.
