A law firm seeks a Mid-Level Associate Attorney to join its Employee Benefits practice in Washington, DC. This is an exciting opportunity for an attorney with at least three years of experience in employee benefits law, including expertise in ERISA, retirement plans, executive compensation, health and welfare plans, fringe benefits, and mergers and acquisitions. The ideal candidate will have a well-rounded background in employee benefits and a passion for solving complex legal issues with practical, actionable solutions. The role requires a collaborative mindset and the ability to communicate complex matters clearly to clients.

Duties:

  • Advise clients on employee benefits issues, including retirement plans, executive compensation, health and welfare plans, and fringe benefits.
  • Assist with legal aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and corporate restructuring as they relate to employee benefits.
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to guide ERISA, tax, and regulatory matters related to employee benefits.
  • Draft and review documents related to retirement plans, executive compensation agreements, health and welfare plans, and other employee benefits matters.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and clients to develop strategic solutions and recommendations based on complex legal issues.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, translating intricate legal concepts into clear, actionable advice.
  • Contribute to the growth and development of the employee benefits practice by participating in team initiatives and assisting with business development.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of three years of experience in employee benefits law, including ERISA, retirement plans, executive compensation, and related areas.
  • Knowledge of employee benefits law in the context of mergers and acquisitions, downsizing, and corporate restructuring is a plus.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills, with an ability to distill complex legal issues into clear and concise advice.
  • Excellent verbal communication and client relations skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
  • Strong academic credentials and a passion for problem-solving and practical application of the law.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to practice law in one of the following jurisdictions: California, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, or Washington, DC.

Skills:

  • Expertise in employee benefits law, including ERISA and retirement plans.
  • Strong legal drafting, research, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to simplify complex legal issues and provide actionable advice.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to work in a collaborative, entrepreneurial environment.
