Biotechnology Patent Agent

A law firm seeks a highly skilled Biotechnology Patent Agent with a strong background in patent counseling and prosecution. The selected individual will join the intellectual property team, focusing on biotechnology and pharmaceutical patents. This role is based in Milwaukee and offers an opportunity to work with a diverse client base on complex IP matters.

Duties:

• Prepare and prosecute patent applications for biotechnology-related inventions, both domestically and internationally.
• Provide strategic patent counseling to clients, advising on patentability, freedom to operate, and other IP-related issues.
• Draft patent opinions and offer guidance on intellectual property rights and protections.
• Manage client portfolios and provide strategic direction on IP management.
• Collaborate with internal teams and clients to develop and execute IP strategies.

Requirements:

• At least 3 years of patent preparation, prosecution, and counseling experience, with a focus on biotechnology.
• Experience in both domestic and international patent applications is essential.
• Previous experience drafting patent opinions is preferred.

Education:

• Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a related field within the biological sciences.

Certifications:

• Must be registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

Skills:

• Exceptional legal research and writing skills.
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral.
• Ability to handle complex patent portfolios and advise on strategic IP matters.
• Proven academic excellence and prior law firm experience are highly desired.
