Job Title: Associate Attorney

Job Overview: A distinguished law firm is currently seeking a dedicated and qualified Associate Attorney to join their Post-Conviction Relief (PCR) team. The ideal candidate will have experience or an interest in both criminal defense and immigration law, particularly handling cases that intersect with post-conviction relief and immigration matters. This position will provide an opportunity to work with an experienced team while managing a diverse caseload of PCR-related cases that may have immigration implications.

Duties:

  • Provide legal counsel to clients regarding their rights and options in post-conviction relief matters, such as motions to vacate, expungements, and early termination of probation.
  • Manage and oversee a caseload of post-conviction relief cases, ensuring thorough attention to detail and timely resolution.
  • Attend court hearings on behalf of clients, representing their interests and providing strategic post-hearing advice.
  • Handle criminal defense matters as needed, including arraignments, pre-trials, pleas, and sentencing.
  • Advise clients on the potential impact of criminal convictions on their immigration status and guide them on related legal options.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in criminal and immigration practices to offer holistic and effective representation.
  • Conduct legal research, draft motions, and prepare filings for post-conviction relief cases.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in California.
  • Experience in criminal defense or immigration law preferred.
  • Strong ability to manage a high caseload and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Must be licensed to practice law in California.

Skills:

  • Criminal defense experience, particularly in post-conviction relief.
  • Immigration law knowledge, particularly as it pertains to post-conviction matters.
  • Legal research and motion drafting.
