Civil Litigation Attorney

A law firm in New York City, NY, is seeking an experienced Civil Litigation Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in handling various civil litigation matters and a demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a collaborative team environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage a caseload of civil litigation matters from inception through trial and appeal, if necessary.
• Conduct legal research and draft pleadings, motions, discovery demands, and responses.
• Represent clients at court hearings, depositions, mediations, and arbitrations.
• Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and the courts.
• Develop case strategies and provide legal advice to clients on litigation risks and outcomes.
• Negotiate settlements on behalf of clients when appropriate.
• Mentor and supervise junior associates or legal staff as needed.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to practice law in New York State is required.
• Admission to practice in other jurisdictions (Federal Courts, NJ, CT, DE, etc.) is a plus.
• 5+ years of solid experience in civil litigation in New York State Courts.
• Experience in practice areas such as personal injury, premises liability, commercial litigation, and/or employment law.
• Strong drafting skills and ability to prepare high-quality legal documents independently.
• Proven ability to manage a caseload and work efficiently under deadlines.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work in-person full time and collaborate effectively within a team environment.
• A portable book of business is preferred but not required.

Certifications:

• Certification or specialization in civil litigation or related areas is a plus.
