A law firm in Houston, TX, is seeking a Patent Agent registered to practice before the US Patent and Trademark Office with 5+ years of patent prosecution experience. The ideal candidate should have a Ph.D. or M.S. with a focus on specified technical fields and a technical background in the biological sciences and/or pharmaceutical sciences. This role requires broad technical knowledge and experience in conducting prior art searches, analyzing patents and scientific papers, and assisting with patent preparation, prosecution, and counseling. An excellent academic record and strong written and verbal communication skills are essential for this position.

Duties:

  • Serve as a Patent Agent to manage and prosecute patent applications.
  • Conduct prior art searches to assess patentability and freedom to operate analyses.
  • Analyze patents and scientific literature to support patent preparation and prosecution.
  • Collaborate with inventors and attorneys to draft and review patent applications.
  • Provide technical and legal expertise in the biological and pharmaceutical sciences.
  • Prepare and file necessary legal documents related to patent applications.
  • Participate in the development of intellectual property strategies and client counseling.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of patent prosecution experience.
  • Registration as a Patent Agent with the US Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Ph.D. or M.S. in specified technical fields or equivalent discipline.
  • Technical background in biological sciences and/or pharmaceutical sciences is preferred.
  • Broad technical knowledge in relevant areas.
  • Experience in conducting prior art searches and analyzing patents and scientific papers.
  • Outstanding academic record.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Education:

  • Ph.D. or M.S. in specified technical fields.

Certifications:

  • Registration as a Patent Agent with the US Patent and Trademark Office.
