Job Overview:

A well-established law firm is seeking an Employment Law Associate for its Chatham, New Jersey office. This role is primarily non-litigation, focusing on a variety of advisory functions similar to an in-house attorney. The ideal candidate will have experience in employment law and a strong interest in advising clients on a broad range of employment matters. While some litigation work is involved, the primary focus is on providing counsel to corporate clients in New Jersey and New York.

Location:

  • Chatham, NJ.

Duties:

  • Provide legal advice on employment matters to private sector corporate clients in New Jersey and New York
  • Conduct legal research on employment issues, including discrimination, harassment, wage and hour compliance, FMLA/ADA, sick leave, and COVID-19 regulations
  • Draft and review employment-related documents, such as handbooks, separation agreements, and restrictive covenant agreements
  • Assist in conducting client training sessions on employment law topics
  • Prepare and respond to pre-litigation demand letters and administrative charges (EEOC, NJDCR, NYSDHR)
  • Handle aspects of employment litigation, including pleadings, motions, discovery, and trial preparation
  • Support clients during Department of Labor audits and agency investigations
  • Participate in depositions, hearings, mediations, and trial-related activities as required

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of substantive experience in employment law
  • Admission to the New Jersey bar (New York bar admission is preferred; other state bars are a plus)
  • Strong research and analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent legal writing and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple clients and projects effectively

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active bar membership in good standing in New Jersey (New York preferred)

Skills:

  • Proficiency in employment law matters, including drafting and reviewing complex legal documents
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
  • Sound judgment and ethical decision-making
  • Ability to problem-solve and manage client expectations proactively
  • Capable of working under tight deadlines and managing diverse tasks
