Job Overview: A law firm in Oakland, CA is seeking a dedicated Junior Criminal Defense Associate Attorney to join its legal team. This role involves defending clients against misdemeanor charges and assisting with various stages of criminal defense cases. Candidates with at least one year of experience in criminal law will be given preference. Duties:

• Maintain strict confidentiality and professionalism in all client interactions.
• Conduct legal research, prepare for hearings, and develop strategic case plans.
• Advocate on behalf of clients in court, aiming for favorable outcomes.
• Familiarize yourself with and apply post-conviction remedies as necessary.
• Stay current with legal updates and changes in relevant laws.
• Advise clients on the direct and collateral consequences of their legal cases.
• Draft and file motions and other legal documents promptly.
• Maintain punctuality and professionalism in court appearances and client meetings.
• Build and maintain positive relationships with clients.
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development as required.
• Engage in networking and community events to promote the firm’s presence.
• Accurately record billable hours and case progress.

Requirements:

• 1-5 years of experience in criminal defense law.
• Ability to handle fast-paced environments while maintaining attention to detail.
• Strong legal research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.
• High energy, with a willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
• Punctual and prepared for court hearings and client meetings.
• Committed to delivering exceptional client service.
• Experience with restraining orders, jury trials, preliminary hearings, and felony cases preferred.
• Fluency in a second language is an advantage.

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
• Must be a member in good standing with the State Bar of California.

Certifications:

• Active California Bar License required.
