A law firm in White Plains, NY, is seeking a Litigation Associate Attorney with 3-6 years of commercial litigation experience. The ideal candidate will manage a diverse caseload in federal and state court, possess a working knowledge of the CPLR, and demonstrate strong research, writing, and communication skills. The role involves drafting legal documents, responding to discovery requests, participating in depositions, and preparing cases for trial. Admission to the New York State Bar is required, with preference given to those also admitted to the New Jersey or Connecticut Bars, or those with experience in cannabis-related matters.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied caseload in federal and state courts, demonstrating a thorough understanding of the CPLR.
  • Conduct legal research and draft legal documents including pleadings, letters, briefs, affidavits, and settlement agreements.
  • Draft and respond to discovery requests, and conduct meet-and-confers with opposing counsel.
  • Take and defend depositions, and participate in hearings, conferences, and oral arguments.
  • Participate in mediations and arbitrations, and prepare cases for trial.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to develop case strategies and manage complex litigation matters.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and court personnel.
  • Stay current with legal developments and changes in relevant areas of law.

Requirements

  • Admission to the New York State Bar.
  • Working knowledge of the CPLR.
  • Strong research and writing skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Technologically savvy with proficiency in legal research tools and software.
  • Preferred: Admission to the New Jersey or Connecticut Bars.
  • Preferred: Experience in big law firms or sophisticated litigation.
  • Preferred: Experience in cannabis-related legal matters.

Education and Certifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the New York State Bar.
  • Additional Bar admissions (New Jersey or Connecticut) are a plus.

Skills
