A law firm in Grand Rapids, MI, is seeking a highly experienced White Collar Attorney with a background in white collar, civil, and criminal tax controversy matters. The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of 7 years of experience, including time spent as a trial lawyer in the public sector and expertise in civil and criminal trial and appellate cases in both federal and state courts. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in government entities such as the IRS Office of Chief Counsel, the US Attorney's Office, and/or the DOJ Tax Division. The role also requires a demonstrated ability to develop business, effectively manage legal files, supervise client interactions, lead cases, and provide exceptional customer/client service.

Duties:

  • Provide legal representation in white collar, civil, and criminal tax controversy matters.
  • Act as an advocate for clients in both federal and state courts, with a focus on civil and criminal trial and appellate cases.
  • Handle a wide range of white collar cases, demonstrating expertise in each.
  • Develop and maintain a portable book of business with growth potential.
  • Ensure efficient management of legal files, with a strong emphasis on accurate documentation and case progression.
  • Supervise and guide client interactions, ensuring their needs and expectations are met.
  • Lead legal cases from initiation to resolution, consistently ensuring client satisfaction.
  • Deliver exceptional customer/client service to establish and fortify client relationships.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in white collar, civil, and criminal tax controversy matters.
  • Extensive experience with civil and criminal trial and appellate cases in both federal and state courts.
  • Previous experience as a trial lawyer in the public sector is a mandatory requirement.
  • Familiarity with the IRS Office of Chief Counsel, the US Attorney's Office, and/or the DOJ Tax Division is preferred.
  • Admission to the Michigan Bar is required.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • A strong academic record and relevant coursework in white collar and tax law are advantageous.

Certifications:

  • Must be a licensed attorney with admission to the Michigan Bar.
