Duties

  • Explain complex immigration concepts to clients and provide strategic legal solutions
  • Represent both detained and non-detained individuals in removal proceedings, including appearances before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals
  • Manage a varied caseload effectively, ensuring progress and compliance with timelines
  • Conduct intake interviews with detained individuals at detention centers
  • Prepare a range of immigration applications, including those for removal defense and family-based petitions
  • Review and adjust immigration application packets as necessary for accuracy and completeness
  • Work with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community organizations on immigration law developments
  • Provide consultations with potential clients to assess their immigration options and develop legal strategies
  • Prepare clients and witnesses for court and USCIS testimony
  • Draft and submit legal briefs for a variety of immigration-related cases

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience practicing immigration law
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred but not required)
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to collaborate and strategize with other team members
  • Demonstrated ability to manage caseloads effectively and advance legal cases
  • Experience handling family-based petitions, humanitarian cases, EOIR, detained cases, citizenship applications, and other USCIS matters
  • Proficiency in case management software is preferred

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school

Certifications

  • Licensed Attorney in good standing with Puerto Rico Bar Admission
