A law firm is seeking a Patent Prosecution & Litigation Associate Attorney to join their team. This role involves both patent prosecution and litigation work, particularly in the fields of electrical engineering, software, and mechanical engineering. Duties:

• Handle patent prosecution, including drafting and filing applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
• Assist in patent litigation, including preparing legal documents, conducting research, and supporting litigation strategy
• Collaborate with clients to provide tailored legal advice on patent matters and other intellectual property issues
• Conduct prior art searches and prepare related analyses
• Prepare patent filings and responses to office actions
• Work closely with senior attorneys on complex matters and provide support on case strategy
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of patent law and technical developments in the related fields
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams on various IP-related legal issues

Requirements:

• 3-6 years of patent prosecution experience, including drafting patent applications
• Strong technical background, with a degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, physics, or a related field
• Experience in intellectual property law, including patent litigation, is preferred
• Registered with the USPTO
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organizational, analytical, and time management skills

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field required

Certifications:

• USPTO registration required
• Virginia State Bar membership is required

Skills:

• Expertise in patent prosecution and litigation
• Ability to analyze complex technical and legal issues
• Strong written communication skills, including the ability to draft clear and persuasive legal documents
• Knowledge of patent laws, rules, and procedures
• Ability to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and patent docketing software
