Job Overview:
A prominent law firm is looking for an Associate Attorney to join its growing Energy Team. This role offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of matters related to energy project development, regulatory compliance, and dispute resolution/litigation. The successful candidate will assist corporate and individual clients in navigating complex regulatory environments and will gain hands-on experience working with a diverse range of energy clients, including electric generation facilities, energy storage facilities, utilities, and large energy consumers. A hybrid work schedule is available, with the preference for candidates to be based in Albany, NY.

Location:

  • Uniondale, NY

Duties:

  • Represent clients in regulatory matters before state and federal administrative agencies
  • Plan and execute pre-application strategy, including drafting and filing application documents and obtaining project permits from state and federal regulatory agencies
  • Research and analyze federal and state statutes, agency regulations, and orders impacting regulated industries
  • Draft administrative petitions, filings, comments to agencies, complaints, answers, and memoranda of law
  • Prepare discovery demands and responses for administrative and litigation proceedings
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure clients’ needs are met within established timelines
  • Maintain a minimum of 1800 billable hours annually

Requirements:

  • 1-5+ years of regulatory and/or litigation experience; energy law experience preferred but not required
  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Admission to the New York State Bar (or eligibility to waive in)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic, and team-oriented environment
  • Excellent research, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Comfortable working with diverse clients and internal teams at various organizational levels
  • Military experience is welcome

Education:

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar (or eligibility to waive in)

Skills:

  • Regulatory and litigation experience in energy or related industries (preferred)
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Ability to draft petitions, motions, and other legal documents with precision
  • Proficiency with legal research tools and software
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities effectively
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team
