Job Overview: A law firm is seeking a motivated Civil Rights Associate Attorney to advocate for individuals whose rights have been violated. The ideal candidate will have litigation experience, a strong intellectual curiosity, and a passion for shaping and advancing civil rights case law.
Location:
Santa Rose, CA
Duties:
Screen potential civil rights cases and conduct in-depth legal research to assess their merits
Participate in litigation for civil rights cases from inception to resolution, including drafting and preparing pleadings, managing discovery, and researching, writing, and arguing complex motions
Take and defend depositions, and make court appearances when necessary
Work closely with clients from diverse backgrounds, including incarcerated individuals
Collaborate with senior attorneys and other legal team members on case strategy and development
Requirements:
Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school
Active license to practice law
2-5 years of experience in litigation, with a preference for civil rights and/or constitutional law and trial experience
Strong research and legal writing skills, particularly in complex motions and case law development
Experience handling depositions, court hearings, and appeals
A strong interest in civil rights advocacy and the intellectual curiosity to engage in case law development
A passion for justice and advancing civil rights through litigation
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Experience with complex motions and case law development
Expertise in depositions, court hearings, and appeals
Strong interpersonal skills for working with diverse clients
