Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a motivated Civil Rights Associate Attorney to advocate for individuals whose rights have been violated. The ideal candidate will have litigation experience, a strong intellectual curiosity, and a passion for shaping and advancing civil rights case law.

Location:

  • Santa Rose, CA

Duties:

  • Screen potential civil rights cases and conduct in-depth legal research to assess their merits

  • Participate in litigation for civil rights cases from inception to resolution, including drafting and preparing pleadings, managing discovery, and researching, writing, and arguing complex motions

  • Take and defend depositions, and make court appearances when necessary

  • Work closely with clients from diverse backgrounds, including incarcerated individuals

  • Collaborate with senior attorneys and other legal team members on case strategy and development

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an ABA-accredited law school

  • Active license to practice law

  • 2-5 years of experience in litigation, with a preference for civil rights and/or constitutional law and trial experience

  • Strong research and legal writing skills, particularly in complex motions and case law development

  • Experience handling depositions, court hearings, and appeals

  • A strong interest in civil rights advocacy and the intellectual curiosity to engage in case law development

  • A passion for justice and advancing civil rights through litigation

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school

Certifications:

  • Active license to practice law

Skills:

  • Excellent legal research and writing abilities

  • Strong oral advocacy and courtroom skills

  • Experience with complex motions and case law development

  • Expertise in depositions, court hearings, and appeals
