Job Title:
Litigation Counsel – Complex Civil Defense

Job Overview:
A respected law firm located in Wilmington, DE is seeking a driven and detail-oriented attorney with litigation experience to join its expanding civil defense practice. This full-time hybrid position is an excellent opportunity for a mid-level associate looking to gain immediate, hands-on litigation experience in a dynamic legal environment. The successful candidate will manage a diverse caseload and engage in all stages of litigation, particularly in areas such as professional liability and employment law.

Duties:

• Handle case files from inception through the expert discovery phase

• Participate in court proceedings including hearings, motions, and case management conferences

• Conduct thorough legal research and draft high-level legal documents including pleadings, motions, and memoranda

• Engage in written and oral discovery, including drafting and responding to interrogatories and requests for production

• Prepare and summarize depositions, discovery responses, and client reports

• Advise clients on case developments and litigation strategies

• Negotiate settlements with opposing counsel

• Collaborate with a legal team on multifaceted litigation matters

Requirements:

• Experience in civil litigation

• Active license to practice law in the state of Maryland

• Additional licensure in the District of Columbia is considered advantageous

• Previous exposure to medical malpractice, employment law, or professional liability preferred

• Ability to manage a full litigation caseload independently and efficiently

Education:

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school

Certifications:

• Active Bar membership in Maryland

• DC Bar admission is a plus

Skills:

• Outstanding legal writing and analytical skills

• Strong organizational and time management capabilities

• Familiarity with legal research platforms (Lexis or similar)

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
