A law firm seeks an Immigration Attorney to join its team in Bakersfield, CA. Duties

  • Provide legal advice and explain immigration concepts, offering strategic solutions for clients.
  • Represent clients in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals, both for detained and non-detained individuals.
  • Manage and prioritize a diverse caseload, ensuring timely and efficient handling of each case.
  • Conduct intake meetings with detained individuals at detention centers.
  • Prepare and file various immigration applications, including removal defense and family-based immigration petitions.
  • Review and adjust immigration application packets to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, prosecutorial offices, and community-based organizations on changes and updates in immigration law.
  • Meet with potential clients for initial consultations, developing strategies and determining the best course of action.
  • Prepare clients and witnesses for court hearings and USCIS testimony, developing comprehensive case strategies.
  • Analyze legal aspects of cases to identify potential benefits and develop strong legal arguments.
  • Draft and submit legal briefs for a wide range of immigration cases.

Requirements

  • 1-4 years of experience in immigration law, including family-based petitions, humanitarian cases, EOIR, USCIS applications, and more.
  • Strong ability to manage a caseload and move cases forward efficiently.
  • A collaborative team player who is willing to strategize and work closely with colleagues.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred, but not required.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience with case management software is a plus.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active membership in the California State Bar (required).

Skills

  • In-depth understanding of immigration law and procedures.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent client interaction abilities, including the capacity to explain complex legal concepts.
  • Ability to develop and execute effective case strategies.
  • Skilled in preparing legal briefs, petitions, and other immigration-related documentation.
