A law firm in Chicago, IL, is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Trusts and Estates Associate Attorney to join their team. The ideal candidate will have experience in drafting estate planning documents, utilizing complex estate planning techniques, preparing gift and estate tax returns, and handling trust and estate administration matters. This position requires excellent writing and research skills to support a diverse range of estate planning and administration activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Draft and review estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and health care directives.
  • Utilize complex estate planning techniques to develop strategies for tax-efficient wealth transfer and asset protection.
  • Prepare and file gift and estate tax returns, ensuring compliance with federal and state tax regulations.
  • Assist clients with trust and estate administration, including probate processes, asset distribution, and managing fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Conduct legal research and provide well-reasoned advice on estate planning and administration issues.
  • Collaborate with clients, financial advisors, and other professionals to develop comprehensive estate plans tailored to client needs.
  • Review and update estate plans in response to changes in client circumstances or applicable laws.
  • Manage multiple client matters simultaneously, maintaining high levels of organization and attention to detail.
  • Stay current with developments in estate planning, trust law, and tax regulations to provide informed and effective legal advice.

Requirements:

  • 2-4 years of experience in estate planning and trust and estate administration.
  • Proven ability to draft complex estate planning documents and handle trust and estate administration matters.
  • Excellent writing and research skills are essential.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the Bar in Illinois.

Skills:

  • Expertise in drafting estate planning documents and utilizing complex estate planning techniques.
  • Proficiency in preparing gift and estate tax returns.
  • Strong legal research and writing skills.
