Job Overview:

A law firm is seeking a skilled Patent Agent specializing in Biological Sciences to join its team. This position will involve drafting and prosecuting patent applications, conducting patent validity, non-infringement, and freedom-to-operate analyses. The role also includes participating in IP due diligence, patent litigation, and post-grant proceedings such as IPR, PGR, and interferences. The ideal candidate will work on cutting-edge life sciences technologies, including gene editing, cellular therapies, antibody-based therapeutics, and molecular diagnostics. Strong written and oral communication skills, along with the ability to manage complex tasks and collaborate within a team, are essential for success in this role.

Location:

Duties:

  • Draft and prosecute patent applications in the biological sciences sector
  • Conduct patent validity, non-infringement, and freedom-to-operate analyses
  • Participate in IP due diligence for life sciences companies
  • Handle patent litigation and post-grant proceedings, including IPR, PGR, and interferences
  • Advise clients on IP matters in emerging life sciences technologies such as gene editing and molecular diagnostics
  • Collaborate with clients and colleagues to manage and develop IP portfolios

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2 years of substantive patent experience; 3-5 years of experience preferred
  • Advanced degree (Ph.D. preferred, or M.S. with industry experience) in Biological Sciences (e.g., Biology, Molecular Biology, Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Immunology, Virology)
  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
  • Strong academic credentials and professional background
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to manage significant responsibilities and handle complex IP matters
  • Strong teamwork and client interaction skills

Education:

  • Ph.D. or M.S. in Biological Sciences (or equivalent industry experience)

Certifications:

  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office

Skills:

  • Expertise in patent prosecution within the biological sciences sector
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies in life sciences, such as gene editing, cellular therapies, and molecular diagnostics
  • Strong drafting and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
