Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a Senior Attorney to manage a complex caseload involving bankruptcy, foreclosure, title, and litigation matters for banks, investors, mortgage servicers, and other creditors. The role involves working closely with other attorneys and support staff, ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, and providing high-quality legal services. The position offers flexibility, with the option to work remotely or from an office in Texas or California.

Location:

  • St. Louis, MI

Duties:

  • Collaborate with attorneys and support staff on bankruptcy/foreclosure procedures, including document preparation, local filing requirements, and judicial tendencies.
  • Handle complex title resolution matters, including title claims, quiet title actions, and other resolution options.
  • Provide recommendations on loan-level issues, ensuring compliance with the Federal Bankruptcy Code, local rules, case law, and firm policies.
  • Review and analyze client documents such as bankruptcy filings, proofs of claim, mortgage payment change notices, title searches, loan documents, payment histories, motions, and affidavits.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, certifications, objections, orders, memoranda, and other legal documents.
  • Represent clients at hearings, settlement conferences, and other legal proceedings (in-person, video, or telephonic).
  • Communicate case updates and developments to clients through email, phone, and client systems.
  • Respond promptly to communications from clients, opposing counsel, court staff, trustees, mediators, and others.
  • Escalate matters as needed and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, problem-solving, and analytical abilities.
  • Ability to manage a caseload and prioritize tasks in a high-volume environment.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with various legal, non-legal, and client stakeholders.
  • Self-starter who can work independently.

Education:

  • Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Member in good standing with the California Bar Association and/or Texas State Bar (additional State Bar licenses are a plus).

Skills:

  • 8+ years of experience in representing secured creditors or mortgage servicers, with specific experience in Bankruptcy or Default Mortgage Industry.
  • Working knowledge of BKFS LoanSphere Default, Sagent Tempo, and CaseAware is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • SharePoint experience is a plus.
