Job Overview:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a deep understanding of immigration law, especially in removal defense, and a successful history of representing clients in immigration court. They will provide expert legal counsel, conduct comprehensive legal research, and advocate vigorously for clients facing deportation.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in removal proceedings before immigration courts, including master calendar and individual hearings.
  • Conduct thorough legal research and prepare necessary filings, motions, and briefs for immigration court cases.
  • Provide expert legal counsel to clients facing deportation, including developing strategies for relief from removal.
  • Prepare clients and witnesses for court appearances, ensuring they understand the process and what to expect.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys, paralegals, and support staff to ensure comprehensive case management.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in immigration laws, policies, and procedures affecting removal defense.
  • Advocate vigorously on behalf of clients, protecting their rights and pursuing all available forms of relief.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed case files and documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, providing regular updates on case status and addressing any questions or concerns.
  • Participate in firm meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing with the State Bar.
  • 1-2 years of experience handling removal proceedings and representing clients in immigration court.
  • Strong understanding of immigration laws, regulations, and procedures related to removal defense.
  • Excellent legal research, writing, and advocacy skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Compassionate and empathetic approach to working with clients facing deportation.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish/English) are preferred.
