A prestigious law firm is seeking a highly skilled Life Science Patent Associate with 3+ years of experience to join its New York office. The successful candidate will focus on patent prosecution and portfolio management, counseling, patent opinion work, and litigation support in the areas of pharmaceuticals, biosimilars, natural products, and ag-bio. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with a nationally recognized team on high-profile Hatch-Waxman matters for major pharmaceutical clients.

Duties

  • Manage patent prosecution, portfolio management, and patent opinion work.
  • Provide strategic counseling to clients in the life sciences industry.
  • Offer litigation support, particularly in Hatch-Waxman matters related to pharmaceuticals and biosimilars.
  • Assist in the development and enforcement of intellectual property rights for life science clients.
  • Conduct patent research, drafting, and filing patent applications.
  • Work with cross-functional teams, including legal and business teams, to deliver comprehensive legal solutions to clients.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in patent law, particularly in life sciences, chemistry, or biochemistry.
  • Registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven ability to manage a high volume of work and meet deadlines.

Education

  • Advanced degree (PhD, JD/PhD, or MS) in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a closely related field.

Certifications

  • Registration with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) required.

Skills

  • Strong understanding of life sciences, particularly in pharmaceuticals, biosimilars, and ag-bio.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex patent law issues and provide clear legal advice.
