Job Overview
A prominent law firm is seeking an experienced Energy Regulatory Attorney to join its Energy Practice Group at the counsel level. The ideal candidate will have expertise in federal and state energy regulatory matters, particularly in renewable energy sectors such as solar, wind, storage, and emerging areas like hydrogen, carbon, electric vehicles, and microgrids. Experience with oil and gas regulatory issues is a plus. This role involves advising clients on complex development and finance transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, and negotiating key project agreements in the energy sector.

Duties

  • Advise clients on energy regulatory matters, including renewable energy (solar, wind, storage), energy transition sectors (hydrogen, carbon, electric vehicles), and microgrids
  • Represent developers, sponsors, lenders, tax equity investors, and other stakeholders in complex energy development and finance transactions
  • Negotiate and draft project documents such as power purchase agreements, interconnection agreements, and share facility agreements
  • Guide clients through equity and debt financing, merger and acquisition transactions in the energy sector
  • Manage multiple projects, ensuring compliance with relevant energy regulations and deadlines
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients, providing strategic and business-focused legal advice
  • Participate in the senior-level review of transactions and legal matters

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in energy regulatory law, particularly in renewable energy sectors
  • Experience in advising clients on energy finance, development, and regulatory matters
  • Strong negotiation and drafting skills in complex agreements such as power purchase agreements and project financing
  • Ability to lead client relationships and manage legal projects with efficiency
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a positive, collaborative attitude
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in complex, fast-paced environments
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Active membership in the Bar of the jurisdiction(s) where the candidate intends to practice
  • Timely admission to the state Bar of the relevant jurisdiction upon employment
