A law firm seeks a skilled and motivated Associate to join its growing business litigation team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on complex commercial disputes, representing clients in courtroom settings, arbitration, and mediation proceedings. The ideal candidate will have 2-6 years of experience in commercial litigation and a strong background in drafting and reviewing legal documents. The position requires a collaborative, proactive attorney who is eager to take on significant responsibility and contribute to the firm's success.

Duties:

  • Represent clients in court and during mediation/arbitration proceedings.
  • Take and defend depositions for business litigation cases.
  • Research various legal and factual issues, working closely with senior attorneys to develop case strategies.
  • Draft and review memoranda, pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery demands, and responses.
  • Review records and transactions involved in business disputes to assist with investigations and evaluate potential client claims.
  • Manage case files, ensuring timely progress and preparation for hearings, motions, and trials.
  • Maintain a minimum billable hours requirement of 1,800 hours annually.

Requirements:

  • 2 to 6 years of experience in large, complex commercial litigation matters.
  • Admission to the New York State Bar or eligibility to waive in.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school and active membership in good standing with the New York Bar.
  • Exceptional writing skills, with a strong ability to draft complex legal documents.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to represent clients effectively in court.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple cases simultaneously.
  • Ability to absorb and process new information quickly and apply it to case strategies.
  • Professional, cooperative, and flexible attitude with a strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and clients at all levels.
  • Military experience is welcome, but not required.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Active member in good standing with the New York State Bar (or ability to waive in).
